Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Review

Shawn"2002, Mazda Protege(195/50R16). These were OEM tires, lasted me 50,000 mi (not an agressive driver) and still some more left. I am looking to get a new set but seem to be expensive. Not good for wet conditions, great for dry weather. OK in snow. I lived through two NY winters and had had no problems (ofcouse I drive carefully in the snow). "

Joe"Mazda Protege 5 2002 - Unfortunately, they have to be changed after only 27000Km and my wife drives it non-aggressively. Their high price and low life gives them a poor value. I will not buy them again. Looking at Toyo Proxes TPT or Bridgestone Potenza G006 with higher tread life for 20$ less per tire."

Volvo Driver"2001 S60 T5 - So I just got the 5000's today and wow what a difference. My volvo originally came with V-rated pirelli's and I was shocked at how much this tire improved my handling and comfort. It rides better than my old pirelli's, less noise, and doesn't feel harsh on the suspension. I was surprised that there were Z-rated. Its cheaper than my pirelli's but rides a lot better. I'm not planning on keeping my car for much longer so I'll tear it up in about 6 months and sell it :-)"

Anonymous"2002 Mazda Protege 5 - I've got 27K out of these tires and need new ones soon. I will avoid purchasing these tires at almost any cost because I have really been unhappy with them. Here are the most annoying things about these tires: 1. tires spin with little or no effort when the road is hardly wet and almost no traction whatsoever in the snow 2. ride is noisy and somewhat bumpy when I get up to a certain speed (no, it's not the car suspension - I know the difference) 3. replacement after just 27K, and almost $600/set installed?! Absolutely unacceptable!!!! "

Brent"GS400 - Tires came new on the car. Constant flat spots occur when car sits for more than an hour. This is with 34psi. Someone had recommended raising pressure to 40psi. Tire states 51psi is max pressure. Tires handle well, but have hard time holding straight line on highway. I'm trying to find an alternate set...."

Cornering is a bit soft, but I don't expect much more out of an aspect ratio of 55. As far as treadwear, only 4K on them, so can't say much about that. Overall a great tire."

ammdumas"Mazda Protege 5 - Treadwear...at 85,000 km and needs to be changed. OK I guess. Winter...Absolutely suck. Just touch the break and start sliding (ABS doesn't help). The rest however seems to be pretty good."

Anonymous"2002 Mazda Millenia S - Forget use of this in snow or anywhere near 4-seasons. I should have heeded the Mazda dealer's caution as I took delivery and it was snowing -- he recommended driving very, very carefully. Winter wheels and tires were required immediately. The first half of the tread wear produced good dry traction, moderate wet traction with a slight tendency to break grip in large puddles at highway+ speeds. The second half of the tread went way too fast and the problems with traction on everything but dry pavement were more pronounced. These tires were done at 23,000 miles and sure were not pushed very hard at all. If the tread did not wear out so fast, I could rate most aspects higher, and would have considered buying them again. As it is, there are better choices with mileage warranties, better traction and tread compounds and I am not stuck on Dunlop if it has trouble getting traction in this market segment : )"

Anonymous"'01 Protege' 5 - Qoute-"Had OE 195/50r16's on 2002 Mazda Protege'5, worn down to quickly, poor grip on hard acceleration, poor wet traction, fair to good cornering, poor snow traction, I now have a set of 205/70r15 Yokohama Sport AVS's holding up very well, still some wet traction issues with those(even they can't get all the power to the ground when you nail it, spin, spin, hop, hop, hook.... gone."-Unqoute New tires are Yoko A550H's, not AVS's, on new wheels, I had a memory lapse, BTW, they're discountinued/or only carried at Sears now. Look to the Parada's and other directional A/S performance offerings from Yokohama that have/are replacing them."

Anonymous"Have these on a Honda Accord EX/V6 Sedan because the stock Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus were $140. Read some reviews from another sight that these were pretty good in wet traction. After 2 years and 22,000 miles, I can say they are not a good wet traction tire from initial acceleration The MXV4 had increased wet traction ability than the SP5000. Also, after 22,000 and fron/back rotation the tread was about 1/4in left. After another 20000+ you'll have to replace them. Handling in tight corners was mushy but that may have been my cars design. For the money, they are still not a bad tire. If your looking for a better wet traction tire, I would try something else."

my name?"Lexus Sc400 - IN MY OPINION WET TRACTION IS GREAT BUT ONLY WHEN TIRES ARE NEW, I WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND 25000 MILES REAR AXLE, FRONT MAYBE 35000 NEVER FIND OUT, BECAUSE CAR GOT STOLEN, BUT THIS IS NOT A POINT. DRY TRACTION IS 'OK' PROBABLY JUST BECAUSE SIDEWALLS ARE THE VERY VERY SOFT, THATS THE BAD THING ABOUT DUNLOPS SP SPORT 5000, CORNERING SUCKS, SOMETIMES I HAD FEELING THAT I WILL LOSE CONTROL OF MY CAR AND CRUSH ON EXPRESWAY I'M TALKING ABOUT 100-125 MILES/HR, I CAN NOT SAY NOTHING WRONG ABOUT SNOW TRACTION,IS EXEPTIONAL, IT IS GOOD TIRE 1-5 (4)"

Anonymous"1998 Acura Integra GS - At first I was impressed by these tires. Dry and wet traction was good. Then as the tire wore, wet traction dropped considerably. It does make wet weather driving more fun, but a bit dangerous. For the first half of the treadlife you can get by in snow, but after that forget it. It is just all season though, so that's expected. Treadlife isn't very good, but I drive hard. Overall a decent tire, but there are better options out there."
