Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Review

Ken"2002 Madza Protege 5 - We purchased this car and it came with these tires as OEM. Currently 60 Km. Tires are cupping and noisy. We believed that we had front end problems based on at shim experienced when driving about 80 - 85 Kms/hour. Only tried driving a couple of times in the snow. Scary!!!!! My wife refused to take it out again. I though she was being silly. NOT SO.....Stay away from these tires.....We are buying replacement and Dunlops are diffently off the list."

Chris"Mazda Protoge 5 - Shocked by the poor treadwear. Nearly all gone after 25,000 miles. Dry handling is sweet on the Mazda - very surefooted. But in the wet, a nightmare. Can not get any power down and very dangerous aquaplaning (even with new tread) above 50 mph. I'm going for Toyo's - the reviews are awesome and they are half the price."

Keith in NJ"Mazda Protege 5 - Very good handling on dry road but terrible in the snow!!! Hard to stay on the road even at low speeds with only an inch or two of snow. Handles well in rain."

Anonymous"2003 Mazda Protegé ES - I recently returned from a weekend trip to the Reno / Lake Tahoe area. During my drive up, I experienced hydro-planing in I-80 with these tires. Needless to say, I was shocked by the experience as I have never had tires that performed so poorly (dangerously even) in wet conditions. In dry conditions, however, these tires are responsive (cornering, for example). Nonetheless, I will replace them just as soon as possible because I can't trust them to perform adequately during the winter months in Northern California. I have read with interest those who have purchased Toyo Proxes 4. Kudos to this website for assuring me - by way of these personal reviews - that my disturbing experience with these tires was not unique."

Franco"2000 Mazda Miata SE - Good dry-road performance tire. Add some water and it changes a lot but then again I have a Miata. Have not found any good tires for snow driving in my Miata - these Dunlops are included."

JR"2004 Benz ML350 - Even though they are being rotated every 5K there is a wierd tire wear pattern. As well, they are down to the wear bars after only 17K. Unacceptable for someone driving 25K annually."

Replaced with Toyo Proxes TPT"2003 Mazda Protege5 - These are a great all-season tire if you live in "Colleefonia", and I mean that sincerely, but not to many other climates. I've never owned a worse tire in the rain. These tires hydroplane terribly!!! Mazda should be ashamed of equipping an otherwise great car with such a poor tire, and Dunlop? Well I'll never buy anything from Dunlop, and I think people should be thinking "Class Action"... I've already heard about several people who have had accidents from hydroplaning with these tires. I just replaced mine after a near-death experience hitting a shallow puddle at 60km/h. Highway travel in the rain is positively scary. Terrible in snow but that's true for most V-rated all season tires. DO NOT BUY THESE TIRES!!!!!"

Anonymous"'05 Mazda Protege - They are better racing tires. They have great handling even at high speeds. They slip a lot on wet roads. Not while turning but more while starting. I think if possible switch for a slightly wider size. I got about 27k miles out of mine."

Jeff S"1989 Ford Probe GT - Overall a nice tire for the relatively low price. Excellent dry traction with very docil and predictable characteristics. Maybe not the highest cornering limits to be found, but very easy to manage. Wet and snow traction are not so good, but still acceptable as long as you recognize your limits and don't overdrive and be stupid. They are pretty quiet for a Z-rated tire, and ride is above average too. I'm on my second set, and have about 30,000mi on them with about half treadwear, so expect to get 50-60K miles out of them. Not bad for the price! For those few of you who say you're getting less than 10,000 miles out of them, either your car has something seriously wrong or you're abusing the tire."

Anonymous"Mazda Protege 5 - Pretty good overall except for traction on wet roads. Snow traction is satisfactory if you drive carefully. Dry road traction is great. I drove over 50,000 miles on these before replacing. They were pretty much bald and I had no traction in the recent snow storm that hit the chicago area. I just had Toyo Proxes 4's installed and seem to be superior in every catagory especially on wet roads."
