Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Review

Steve & Andrea"2002 Mazda Protege - Tires came OE on the Mazda Protege (lease). Great in dry weather. Absolute nightmare in winter. Feel lucky tires wore out at 35K miles after reading stories of others - even after rotating twice. Sidewalls done. Now will cost $600 for new tires 5 months before lease up. Nice deal for dealerships. Would not buy this tire again and won't go back to Mazda ( much as I love the car ) for offering such a useless tire for the car and calling it All Season. True statement if there's no rain or snow where you live."

Handled ok in snow only for first couple drives, had to keep stiff arms on steering wheel to avoid fishtailing. dry pavement haven't had problems pretty satisfied in taking hard corners. In wet pavement car skids out alot. I've had the tires for just about 1 year with 15k on them and wear on tire sucks. Not what they are held up to be, especially for the price and name. ."

Anonymous"Mazda Protege ES 2002 - These are excellent performance tires, and (on my car) they've lasted well. They're much better in snow than the rating suggests -- I've driven them (with about 25,000 mi/40,000 km wear) through six inches of snow and also through a few inches of slush, on an incline, without much trouble, though they're as bad as you'd expect on ice. In eight inches of dense snow, I had trouble getting up a moderate hill last month. Surprisingly, I don't get great wet traction, but they were better for that when new."

Doug"1988 BMW M3 - Had several set of these. Very good dry grip. Above average wet grip. Barely passable light snow capabilities. Would buy again as an everyday tire. Got 30K with no rotations and even wear. Fairly spirited driving style."

Robert"1993 Ford Probe GT - 225/05/16 - Overall awesome tire. Owned them now for about 2 years. Great traction on Dry, wet and lightly snowy roads. Leaps and bounds above the Yokohama and Goodyear tires I had previously (at half the price!!). I've never experienced better wet or snow traction in my car, that to be honest was miserable for hydroplaning and I would have to park it when it snowed even an inch. I used to joke about it being more like a sled in the snow. With these SP 5000s I drive with confidence in any weather. On a dry road, you really have to make an effort to hear them complain, they stick solid around the most aggressive turns without the slightest squeak. Unlike the Goodyear Eagles that shreak like a dying cat around even modest on-ramps. I would have no hesitation purchasing them again. I'd suggest them to anyone who also owns a light, sporty car with wider than average tires. These definately have good bite for the buck."

Schlomo Schaffer"2001 Mazda Protege ES - 195 60 16 - 46,000 miles and two need replacing due to infrequent rotations. Handles great in the wet and dry conditions of the Seattle area. Maintains traction while accelerating through turns. "

Anonymous"2005 Mercedes ML350 Special Edition - 275/55HR17 - These tires (on a brand new SUV) were half gone at 13,000 miles, and all gone at 19,000. All miles are highway miles. With the exception of the first 5,000 miles, they made a brand new SUV ride like a tractor, and the road noise became louder and louder each day. Dealership would not replace them under the warranty due to "normal wear and tear." They actually told me that there was nothing wrong with the tires. This is not normal wear and tear. I had them balanced and rotated at each scheduled maintenance interval, and the dealership told me that they were severely cupped at 13,000 miles. I would not recommend these Dunlops to anyone. Based on research, I am purchasing a new set of Michelin Cross Terrains. "

JHH"Mazda Protege5 - 195-50R16 - OEM on my Protege5, they were good overall tires, but I would not buy them for replacement because of the price. Little understeer in slow sharp turns, often spins on wet pavement, feel slightly soft in handling. Didn't try them in snow. Good in everything else, like high speed curves. I had better performance with my pervious car's Potenza with smaller rims. And I got 50000km out of them. I hope my new Proxes4 will suit my Protege5..."

Anonymous"Mazda Protege 2.0 ES 2001 - P195 50R16 - Good tires for the first 35000-40,000 KM's but wore out very quickly from there. I stretched them as far as I possibly could with good rotating and keeping track of tire pressures, and I completely wore them down beyond the wear bars at approx.61,000 KM, Snow and Rain traction drastically reduced at approx 40,000 KM. I am going with the Fuzion 205 50 16's this time"

Tayloe"1992 Toyota Celica GT-S - 215/50 ZR15 - Have had these tires for ~3.25 years, placing over 65k miles on them. Yes, 65k miles ;) . This is w/ quite aggressive driving, through the hills and curves of TN, MO, WV, GA, AL, KY, etc. Actually bought them when lived in NE Indiana, so had some experience w/ these in the snow and related winter weather - and they performed very well. On the highway, I drive ~85 mph :) and these were quiet, hugged cornes great, and helped me get ~34 mpg, highway. Never had any issue w/ hydroplaning, except a few minor episodes [even in torrential downpours] near the last few thousand miles - of course, by then, these were way past their lifespan. I rotated them, had alignments done, kept air pressure up, and did the regular maintanence - and these tires by far exceeded what others have reported. Would buy again, except will try the BF Goodrich Traction T/A V for a bit."
