Falken Ziex ZE-512 Review

Jon"3000GT Spyder SL - 245/45ZR17 - I've only had my falkens for about 2 months, but considering the price/quality ratio you can't beat them. The side walls are a tad suspect, but the tread wears great and I don't think twice about taking those hard turns faster than i should. Definitely good enough for the stock performance car. But if you have the money to mod your engine, you better have the money to put on the high class rubber too! "

Rob G."1992 Accord EX-R coupe - Let me say upfront: this is a performance tire, NOT high-performance. Other reviewers who have been disappointed after using with high-performance vehicles should be looking at Toyo T1-S or GY Eagle F1, not the ZE-512. Went from 195/60R15 Michelin a/s to 215/45R17(+2). Vast improvement in ride quality and handling. Grips quite well on off ramps/medium-radius corners at 80-95Kmh, but can feel a slide beginning at 100+Kmh. Standing water is not a factor during spirited driving. Some sidewall flex, but can be cured with upping the pressure (I run ~40-42psi). I agree with independent consumer folks who rate this tire on top because it hits the target dead on for my type of vehicle, driving style and budget!! ps: Did consider new Toyo Proxes 4's (possibly sportier performance?) but more $$."

Anonymous"Elantra - Most reviews here say Excellent or Very Good for handling, and a handful say Poor - including mine. This can't be just a difference of opinion - my first few lane changes actually frightened me after my Michellin MXV4's. Maybe we have different profiles (mine were 60-series, not sporty 45's), or very different expectations or driving styles, or cars. I tried 30, 32, 35 and about 38psi and still can't get them to feel right. Maybe I should've used 40+ like that one guy. I don't know - beware if you want good handling."

Jim"2001 Lexus ES300 - Consumer Reports rated these Falkens #1 in their 11/03 review of "performance all-season tires" and rated the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires that came on my Lexus as #6. From my experience with both tires, Consumer Reports pretty much got it right. The Falkens are noticably better in all respects, including rolling resistance. My Michelins were worn almost bald at 32,000 miles, and my gas mileage improved two miles per gallon with the Falkens. When you consider that I got four Falkens mounted and balanced for less than the price of just two Michelins, they're an incredible bargain. "

Bob"Hey people, you can throw out reviews with 5's across the board and those with 1's or 0's across as well! This is neither the world's best nor the world's worst! Anyone driving on a 60/65 series ihas a PASSENGER CAR TIRE, it will not perform like a Z-rated tire not matter what the tire shop guy tells you! The 35/40/45/50/55 series are still rated as ALL-SEASON. That means it is a decent all-around sporty performer, again NOT a Z-rated canyon carver by any means! You want handling, check out the price of a Pirelli P-Zero and be prepared to buck up big time!!"

Will"2001 Mustang GT - Ijust bought these things and was on my way home when at this turn that I normally take at 60-65 miles per hour I can feel the back kind of squirm. These tires have practically no sidewall support if I jerk the wheel I feel as if I am riding on air(bad thing). The response of the tire is horrible. It does feel unsafe like the few reviewers have said. I really know how to drive my car in sprint, and wouldn't recommend the tire to anyone because the tire doesn't deserve the z or y rating because anyone driving that fast is at risk. "

Tom"2003 Saab 93 SS - Well, I was getting concerned with the stock Pirelli's, and wanted something a little more agressive, and faster. These 512s perform like mad. The dry handling is great, and last week I got caught in the tail end of Hurricane Bonnie, and what stability, no Hydroplanning at all. I am taking them on the track in a week, so we will see how they handle constant speeds around 200-220km/h. I am a fairly agressive driver now. Oh yeah, I find that I can take the cloverleaf off/on ramps at about 80-90km/h without any squeel too.:):)"

JR"2001 Honda Accord - Purchased a pair of these for my Accord EX V6 last November. The first thing that strikes you is that it is a very good looking tire. It looks good and it runs good. Handles great on dry roads and gives you confidence on wet roads. Does a very good job on snowy roads as well. The down side is they tend to be a little noisy when stoping, you can almost hear a runbling noise."

Anonymous"Passat V6 - I purchased these tires based on customer reviews and Consumer Reports ratings. I am disappointed with the handling and road noise just like many other drivers. The side walls "fold in" during spirited cornering making the car bounce and feel unstable. Didn't experience this with my previous Michelins. Will most likely not purchase these again."

Anonymous"I have a 93 cavalier, drove them kinda hard. Traction is good, like the looks of the tire. I have only had these for a year and only about 12,000 miles on them and I am about to order some new Yokohama's. I have no clue why the treadwear was so bad. Got a nail in all of the tires, some twice. I dont drive anywear special either. All in all I liked the tire but the treadwear was terrible!"

Blake"'89 Honda Civic Si - Holy smokes these tires are quiet! And wet or dry they stick to the road like glue. I'm very happy, and my wallet is happy too, 'cause you can get 4 of them for the price of 2 of some other tires out there *ahem bridgestone*."

Steven"2002 Saab 9-3 se sedan - I have had these for a couple of days now. So far, grip and handling is phenomenal but the noise level is a little disappointing. I would rate the noise level satisfactory."

Tom (follow up after the track)"Saab 9/3ss - Well after spending the weekend on the track, these tires are great for the money. Not bad wear, and next to no pilling after a couple of sessions. The stickyness is great. 40psi up front and 38psi in the rear. Stiff sidewalls too"

Charlie"G35 - At first, I couldn't say enough good things about this tire. However, after 10,000 miles of driving in the Southern California mountains, they are completely bald. If your looking for tread life, stay away. "

Peter"Honda civic si 2000 - This tire is good for the price, but if you run 2000km by month, DONT BY THIS TIRE. I MADE 7000MILES WHITH THIS TIRE AND I DONT RUN HARD AND I DONT GO TO THE 1/4 MILES. iT'S A TIRE FOR THE CITY, NOT FOR THE LONG DISTANCE ROAD."

Christian Jensen"Peugeot 205 GTI - Size: 195/50-15". This tyre is terrible. In the dry its ok, but in the wet its absolutely dangerous. I can't remember when I have run on a tyre as bad as this one. I have run down 2 sets so I have some experience with it."
