 Hercules Ironman Winter HSI-L

Was looking for a budget set of winter tires for the wife's car and the guy at the local tire shop recommend these. Put them on in November of 2014 when we got the car, run them year round. The wife only puts on maybe 8000km a year so to have 2 sets of tires just wasn't worth it. So far, 15,000 km and they still look brand new, wear in almost none existent. Winter performance is great, summer time and rain is great too. On the highway in the winter the car feels very secure and has never felt like sliding, pretty good considering we get snow 9 out of 12 months up here in Canada. -40 to +30, these tires handle it all. Highly recommend. Rated noise 1/5 because I wasn't sure how the scale worked, but for a winter tire they are super quite on the highway.

 Michelin Energy Saver A-S

Possibly the quietest tires I have ever had but as far as performance as an A/S rated tire? Terrible grip in even the lightest rain. Handling in dry weather is ok. I think that they are rated for 45k miles and I am at 52k so I have little complaint about the treadwear on these tires as they have lasted longer than the warranty period.

I drive about 30,000kms a year and in the winter the highway I drive is not plowed and I have never been stuck and I have driven in snow up to my headlights.

Not a hardcore snow tire but a competent and comfortable winter tire. Driving on cold dry roads feels like driving in summer with all-seasons. Performance in the wet is good. I just can't get over how quiet and smoothly a winter tire can ride. A very good winter tire in areas of light snowfall.
