The Ultra Grip Winter is Goodyear´s Studdable Winter - Snow tire developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers, as well as sport utility vehicles and passenger-oriented light-duty pickup trucks. Designed to offer high levels of traction in cold wintertime temperatures, Ultra Grip Winter radials are molded to accommodate the use of optional metal studs to increase traction on hard-packed snow and ice.

  • Vehicles should always be equipped with equivalent tires at all wheel positions. All Ultra Grip Winter radials, due to their exceptional hard-packed snow and ice traction when studded, must be used in sets of four to help ensure proper vehicle control.
  • Goodyear Ultra Grip Winter tires meet the industry´s severe snow service requirements and are branded with the mountain - snowflake symbol.
  • Install Ultra Grip Winter tires in sets of four only.

Live in Northern Alberta. Bought a set of these for the wife's brand new sedan. Tires are great in deep snow, they can throw snow 20 feet away when you step on it. Try to get it stuck and it chews down to pavement in a few revolutions. Ice performance (which there doesn't seem to be a rating for) isn't the best however, with only few straight line sipes the tires perform more like a light truck tire on ice. Cornering and stopping on ice is only marginally better than her European all season tires. Dry performance is pretty good, the tires lack of ice dynamics for a trade off in dry weather I guess. Tire feels very smooth and has worn very well. Road noise is way above average for a winter tire, the tire almost howls like a mud tire at highway speeds (even had the dealer check alignment all green) this doesn't bother me much but it's something to note when considering a winter tire. I feel this tire was designed more of SUV's or midsize trucks then coupes or sedans. Consider this tire if you live in areas that get heavy dumps of snow but regularly have dry pavement.

I am waiting to experience the "Ultra" grip that the name of these tires suggest they have. So far I have used them in a variety of winter conditions such as light snow, heavy snow, hard packed and icy. They are ok on hard packed snow, I'll give them that much. On the light snow in below 0 cold, I was slipping and sliding all over the place and skidding through stop signs. Now I know to start slowing down way way in advance. On ice? Useless. Nearly no traction. Got stuck part way up a couple hills too. At least they are not that noisy, and they take the bumps pretty good. Smooth ride too. But great winter tires they are not!

Been about 30 years since I have had to get snow tires. For the price and performance, I am impressed. Only problem to date, and not really a problem, is getting reacquainted with road noise. If removed in a timely manner wear should not be an issue unless you like spending money. As I am located in western New York, I will have at least 5 more month's to adjust to the noise. As former Goodyear employee it is good to finally see a quality product.

these tire's are great in snow and slush, i've got them on a ford focus 5 speed manual and have had to stop on roads snow coverd on hills and have had no sliding-spinning issues to get the car going again, the neg about them is there noisy and wear quickly, but i will defently buy them again and recommend them to anyone wanting a good winter tire.
