NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA R

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R, a Nordic studless winter tire, rolls lightly, saves fuel and is both stable and accurate. As for wet grip, the new tire takes a long leap forward. The latest studless alternative represents the Hakkapeliitta family at its purest: it is designed to function in all winter weather and extreme conditions.

The sidewall of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R is labelled with the promising words ultra low rolling resistance. This means that the friction tire rolls very efficiently without wasting energy. From the driver's perspective, this translates into economic and environmentally friendly driving with up to half a litre lower fuel consumption per hundred kilometres.

I purchased some Nokian WR2 All Weather tires. With 8/32 tread left the tires were cracked and needed replacing. The R2 were the only thing that they had on stock in my size and I needed tires right away. The reviews looked good. In snow these tires are great, and the road noise is minimal. On ice they do an ok job, I have other winter tires that are much better. That is where this tire ends. On dry pavement these are terrible. My all season tires with 3/32 have more traction at -15 Celsius than these things do when new. Taking any corner feels like you have marbles under the tires with no confidence that they will keep you planted. The tire shop has yet to get them balanced properly, seems to be a tire issue. I only recommend these if you are driving a golf cart while working at Santa's workshop. I will not be purchasing Nokian tires ever again.

I've put about 18000 kms over 3.5 winters.I still have about 75% tread, so i am very surprised how they don't wear down. They are somewhat quiet and great in the deep snow.I drive to the mountains often and are a joy to have on my ride.I have them on for about 4 months/winter. Will absolutely replace them with Nokians when that time comes. Should get 3 more winters or more at the rate that there wearing down.

Good snow tires. grips on slush dry and wet snow. Deep snow? No problem. But when it rains? Pretty bad I'd say I lose a lot of traction. The road noise is ok only if the windows are up . I've had quieter snow tires in the past. I've had them on for 3 winter seasons (Average 3 months mounted each) and they've reduced to 5/32nd so tread wear isn't great on these.
