I read all the reviews here before buying a set about two months ago. Seems people either love 'em or hate 'em. After a long trip in all sorts of conditions on Northern Ontario roads, I think I understand why.
Slush, deep snow, packed snow, ice, wet, dry, I never slipped once. I was in complete control every second of a 1500 km trip. Even when I deliberately tried to break them loose, I couldn't. They seem to work very well.
But I couldn't feel the road like I did with my Blizzaks. I felt like I was about to break into a slide all the time. Never did, though, and it's hard to describe why I "felt" about to lose control. I started to pay more attention on dry pavement, and found that they feel the same way there too, but I hadn't noticed, because I trust them in the dry. In fairness, it could be the vehicle which is new to me too (Mazda Tribute 4wd, 4 cyl).
Too early to comment on tread life yet.

The reviewer known as "Anonymous" who has posted several nearly identical bad reviews for these tires is quite obviously an idiot. These are up there with the best winter tires money can buy. In an area where studded tires are illegal...they are THE best winter tire on the market. This guy makes comments about how japanese products are over rated?? Go buy a Goodyear or a BFG and and go back to the 80's.

sidewalls are too soft for SUV, makes sudeen turn (emergency) dangerous. woobly tires with good grip on icy conditions, tread packs in heavy snow

Toyo advertises these tires as having similar if not better ice traction compared to a good studded winter tire. That is bull. I have a FJ Cruiser and switched to the factory studded Nokian SUV 5's. Day and night difference in ice traction, with no worse dry performance. I will never again run a studless winter tire, as studded tires still beat them
