Advanced Winter Technology Delivers Advanced Winter Traction

Building on the exceptional success of the Ice Guard IG10, the all-new Ice Guard IG20 represents a great leap forward in winter traction technology. Designed to cut through the watery film on ice that causes micro-hydroplaning, the IG20 features Yokohama's over a billion absorptive carbon flakes and more than 5 billion resin-coated shelled microbubbles. The tread design has been refined to offer better grip during acceleration, cornering and braking in the worst winter weather, including in slush and snow and on ice. The IG20 has also been optimized to provide long-lasting wear and low road noise.

I have only one word to say: Unpredictable. These are the most unpredictable tire I tried. No driving confience at all... I live in Montreal and winter tires are very important. Once I spent a winter without winter tires and I had more confience than with the yokohama. Why? because at least they were predictable (although they slipped a lot). Nothing is predictable with these Yokohama, sometime they have grip and sometime they don't, on a straight line the car navigates from left to right without warning, they also slip when I accelerated at a red light. This is just ridiculous... I'm a confident driver, but for the first time in my life I had to drive like a grandpa (because I was afraid, so afraid!). Driving with these tires during the winter in Montreal should be illegal.

I got these back in 2009, been thru 3 winters and still running good. Treadwear seems very good, i had put about 30,000km on these and base of how deep these blocks of treads looks, i say they can least for 3 more winters easily. Noise is not an issue at highway speed, ride very quite and smooth at all speed expect when under braking. Traction is good in dry, wet and snow but do keep in mind that these tires doesn't stop as good on dry compare to all seasons tires(feels like the rubbers blocks are moving too much on the yokohama) Handling is pretty bad tho, not stable under cross wind on hwy and under uneven snow. overall still pretty good tires, at least the car won't slide around uncontrolablly in snow and can climp up my steep driveway with snow on,plus abs activated only a few times over the 30000km.

This is the 1st time I have purchased winter specific tires. I had a good experience with Goodyear triple-tred tires on this car but the second year they had excessive tire wear so I switched to Michelin hydroedge. My wife has put the car in the ditch regularly and I found a set of Blizzaks and installed them on our Nissan Altima- what a difference! So I had to find sno tires for my driver and found a used set of Ice Guards on cl. These and traction control and abs are fantastic. I did have a time in town on black ice that I had some wheelspin but regularly beat anything including 4x4s leaving stoplights. I will buy these again when needed..

When I bought this car, I had the dealer throw in snows as part of the deal. He came back with a few options and I ended up choosing the Yokohama Ice Guard IG20's based on the reviews here. Well let me tell you, I'm extremely impressed with the performance of these tires in the snow. These tires, combined with the vehicle's stability control, makes for a very uneventful and safe driving experience. I was a little concerned when I decided to drive a new 5.0L Mustang through the winter, but I can only say I shouldn't have worried. Very impressed with these tires. Highly recommend for a year round Mustang.

Today there was a small ice storm in Montreal... and I can assure you these tires do not perform well on ice. I had Michelin tires before and they fared better on ice.
