This tire got raving reviews. After driving more expensive tires, I don't think the Altimax Arctic matches those. I found it to be a decent tire, with nothing exceptional if not for the thread wear which is impressive. It's quiet, it handles average on dry, doesn't grip well on ice or slippery snow (32F), only acceptable deep snow traction. I felt (much) more confident with tires such as Toyo GO-2. However, the Altimax is cheaper and it lasts. Not an exceptional tire but a good choice given the price.

First off I rated the treadwear lower because that's what you should expect from winter tires. Due to the softer compound you're going to experience low tread life when compared to harder compound tires. However, I'm not very nice to my car or tires, I enjoy pushing them to their limits, and these tires have kept up the entire time. Being from Minnesota, I'm constantly driving in terrible conditions. For the last three seasons I've used these tires and I will NEVER go another season without them. I pass big 4x4 pick up trucks and SUVs all the time with ease. I was uneasy about general when I bought these since they weren't a big player in the tire game, but I'm glad I decided to give them a chance! The cost, very reasonable. To say the least, when it comes to driving during the cold months, I could care less about road conditions when I've got these tires gripping the road!!!

just put these tires on a week ago...i used to have uniroyal ice and snow II we had a good snow storm the other day and living out in the country i have to take a county highway to the main highway for work.( i leave for work at 3 am) plows don't come out untill 7-7:30 am. I was just going through the snow like a tank. Even the snow drifts didn't slow me down with these tires. great on dry pavement...sticks really good, great wet handling, snow handling is 10 out of 10, very comfortable, and quiet. can't tell about treadwear yet. i got prices on michellin xice and these tires were up there in price just like the michellins...so up there with the high end tires, true to their performance. would recommend these tires!!!!!!

This tire is awesome in the snow. Mine are studded and with my awd Subaru I can go anywhere in any snow storm. I live in NH and are constantly driving through icy and snow conditions. Even with over 12+ inches on unpaved roads I'm constantly passing other cars during snow storms because these tires aren't slowed down in any amount of snow. I've ran these tires for 3 winters now and put about 15k on them and tread wear still looks new. Even during fast acceleration in cornering they don't want to let go into a drift but will if pushed to the limit. I won't but any other winter tire due to the satisfaction I've had with these. These tires can't compare to summer tires in dry cornering if you drive like a maniac but if you want to drive anywhere in snow or icy conditions this tire is awesome. If you don't want to take my word for it my dad has been a tire salesman for over 20 years and this is the tire he recommended. Don't hesitate and buy if you want the ultimate winter tire for snowy or icy conditions.

Good snow tire. Dry pavement handling is ok but definitely not sporty. It's my 4th winter with these tires (25000kms of winter driving) and the thread is getting dangerously low, will need to throw them away this spring. Excellent value tire as long as you're slowing down during the winter months.
