Light Truck and SUVs / Winter / Premium
The new Geolandar I/T G072 sets a new standard for light truck and SUV performance in grueling winter weather conditions. Equipped with Yokohama's new absorptive carbon flakes and resin-coated shelled microbubbles, it cuts through the watery film and hugs icy surfaces with no holds barred. An aggressive tread pattern chews through snow and keeps on trucking. Its multi-flat profile provides increased road contact, with wider grooves that flush away water and slush with ease. The GO72 offers all the confidence you need to take on the most challenging terrain in snowy, icy situations. Plus it offers exceptional handling and outstanding durability, even when the going gets tough.
Two compound elements combine to eliminate the thin film of water that causes slipping.Absorptive carbon flakes use capillary action to draw water away from the surface.Shelled microbubbles absorb any remaining water & improve contact with the ice and snow surface. As the tire rotates, the water is expelled, prepared for its next contact with the road surface. The silica with Zeruma agent compound enhances tire tread flexibility in very cold conditions, enabling it to grip the road.3-D pyramid-shaped sipes interlock to maintain strong tread blocks, improving block stiffness during acceleration, braking & cornering. Multiple edges offer better grip & control.Multi-flat profile expands the contact area of the tread on the road surface & allows for wider grooves to expel water, snow & slush. It also reduces tread noise & irregular wear.Power edge blocks equalize contact pressure under heavy loads, for increased stability & reduced irregular wear.Reverse `V' shaped centre blocks evacuate water effectively from the centre of the tread under braking.

First winter I had these, it rained then froze shortly after in the middle of January. I was towing an 18' car hauler behind my Durango, highway was sheer ice, my truck was firmly planted with the Yoko's on. I was doing 90km/h on the straights and 70km/h on the curves, only because I didn't want the trailer to step out on me. Semi's were doing 50km/h on the straights so that tells you how bad it was.
This last year driving QEII from Edmonton to Calgary, there was a travel advisory, not to take QEII, I was doing 115km/h on cruise control, had 0 traction issues, even while slamming on the brakes for semi's who cut me off. I should add they were at wear bars for that trip. even this spring, I swapped over to my brand new never used Yoko Geolander ATS tires, and we got a little snow after, and comparing my worn out, need to be replaced ITS tires to the brand new ATS, the ATS might as well have been steel discs.
This last year, while still on wear bars I winched a van out of the ditch, had to drive my Durango to pull it out the last little bit, while I was on glazed ice, my Durango never slid while winching, nor even came close to breaking traction with worn out tires.
In the tread life, I've run them 2 winters practically on wear bars, sure not as good as new, but far superior to any all season. I put them on early one year and put 17,000km on them in +5-+15C weather, and I think I lost a season or two of use out of them from doing that.. and I did get over 60,000km out of them when I took them off this spring.

I have had these tires on thus far this winter and they do not disappoint. I have yet to spin a wheel or slide to a stop with these tires on. We live in New Brunswick, Canada where we have 2 feet of show currently and just had a major ice storm and these tires were outstanding. Best winter tire I have ever owned. Will definitely buy these tires again

The worst winter tires I've owned thus far!!! I've actually sent an email to Yokohama suggesting these are dangerous to use in winter. I am from Montreal and we have a very long and aggressive winter. Weather out here comes in every shape possible, wet, ice, slush, high banks of snow, black ice, etc...
These tires have no grip whatsoever, I was sliding with them even before it snowed (there was minor ice on the ground and barely of it). These tires are a joke.
So beware and look elsewhere!
I am an experienced driver, been driving since I'm 16 here in Montreal, and I've seem my share of winters. The best tires I've owned were studded Blizzaks but studs are illegal these days so my 2nd choice would probably be something like the Michelin X series, had them on my Mini Cooper 2 years back and they were amazing.
But Yokohama has a loooooooooooong way to go when it comes to winter tires.

Living in Alberta, Canada near Calgary, winter tires are often driven at highway speeds on hard dry roads as much as deep slush, deep wet/cold smow and black ice. In all conditions these tires have been outstanding.
Living on a farm also tasks these treads for deep and hard packed snow where they do an admirable job of digging down and powering through bumper deep snow with crusted surface. I have never been pulled out of a situation but have rescued a few that have and others who lost control and ended up off the roads.
This is the third season for these tires on my 2011 GMC Denali and although they are starting to show wear in tread depth, the continue to perform amazingly on icy and wet slushy roads. The deep snow performance may have dropped off but is still respectable and suitable for 99% of the conditions encountered.
Best non-studded winter tires I have ever owned.

Ford F150 XTR Super Crew 6.5 feet bed. Had these tire during 2 winters. I can't imagine running it for a 3rd winter! Was good during only the first winter, then the rubber are becoming to be hard and some crack start to appear on it on second winter. then, the tire have lost most of his bite during the second tire.
