Advanced Winter Technology Delivers Advanced Winter Traction

Building on the exceptional success of the Ice Guard IG10, the all-new Ice Guard IG20 represents a great leap forward in winter traction technology. Designed to cut through the watery film on ice that causes micro-hydroplaning, the IG20 features Yokohama's over a billion absorptive carbon flakes and more than 5 billion resin-coated shelled microbubbles. The tread design has been refined to offer better grip during acceleration, cornering and braking in the worst winter weather, including in slush and snow and on ice. The IG20 has also been optimized to provide long-lasting wear and low road noise.

These tires should be called ice garbage not ice guard!!, they are completely useless on ice and only average on snow. They are way overpriced too, go for the Nokian Hakkapeliitta, its the best winter tire on the market by far.

At best, I'd say the IG20's are above average....but defenitely not great. In snow for handling they do their job well enough. Granted that a snow tire is more designed to keep you on the road and for stopping, but for a rear-wheel drive vehicle, they're terrible in wet conditions and uphill snowy climbs. For these reasons alone, I wouldn't recommend them.

I usually have Blizzak tires in the winter but I was too late this year in buying any and they were all out. So I was in desparate need (I was heading up to far northern Ontario where there's reall snow) and needed snow tires. So I went to Mike's Service Goodyear in Mississauga and his mechanic recommended Yokohama. I was skeptical but bought a set. We had heavy ice in the driveway and couldn't walk on it and the tires slipped. I was SO disappointed but the next day headed out to the Soo. Dry pavement they're a little louder than I'd like but okay. They handle well. Then In Espanola (north of Sudbury) I hit snow. Lots of it! The tires were remarkable! They handled so well. I put the brakes on pretty hard and the steering stayed straight! It didn't slide off--it didn't make the anti-lock brakes squeal. I cut across the slush of the the mid-road to change lanes and it didn't vear off or slip. I hit chunks of snow from the transports and it treated those like bumps in the road and kept going straight. I drive a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 and didn't even have to put it in 4wheel drive! I am VERY happy with these tires on snowy terrain. I thank the mechanic who suggested them :)
